city form: planning

The largest underground complex in the world, La Ville Souterraine is a network of tunnels and (mostly) subterranean structures that includes shopping malls, apartment buildings, hotels, banks, offices, museums, universities, 7 metro stations, 2 train stations, and a regional bus terminal. Largely referred to in guidebooks as a monumental achievement in planning, there was actually no master plan for the underground city, which was originally conceived of in 1962 by Vincent Ponte. In 2004 a rebranding effort invented ‘RÉSO’, alluding to the word ‘réseau’ which means network.http://www.aviewoncities.com/montreal/reso.htmhttp://www.vieux.montreal.qc.ca/plaque/horizon/gares/eng/gare_5a.htmhttp://www.stm.info/English/a-somm.htmhttp://www.belangerbranding.com/Francais/2-Transport.htmlshapeimage_6_link_0shapeimage_6_link_1shapeimage_6_link_2shapeimage_6_link_3
