patagonia 02.22/23.10

city form: history/culture

Patagonia encompasses parts of two countries: the windswept steppes of Southern Argentina and a mountainous sliver of Chile. The region of Patagonia was first noted in 1520 in the European accounts of the explorations of Ferdinand Magellan, but the area remained largely unpopulated until the introduction of sheep in 1885, which coincided with the arrival of immigrants, pioneers, and outlaws (notoriously, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid). By 1935 Patagonia was the 2nd largest sheep market in the world (after Australia), but today in the advent of fleece (ironically popularized by the brand ‘Patagonia’) wool is no longer as valuable a commodity. http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/places/promo/patagonia/http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/samerica/ar.htmhttp://www.geographia.com/CHILE/patagonia.htmhttp://www.patagonia-argentina.com/i/content/bandidos.phphttp://www.patagonia.com/web/us/search/regulator-fleece/fleece?k=51shapeimage_2_link_0shapeimage_2_link_1shapeimage_2_link_2shapeimage_2_link_3shapeimage_2_link_4
