Venetian Gothic originates from the 14th century, when Byzantine style met Moorish influence. The ornate stylings of building details and the use of lush materials were an expression of the prosperity of the city during that time.
The distinctly Venetian version of Gothic architecture was developed most extravagantly in palace buildings, blending new Gothic forms with Veneto-Byzantine and oriental motifs, both part of the city’s cultural heritage. A highly original style was thus created which remained deeply rooted in the city until the last decades of the 15th century.http://www.architecture.com/LibraryDrawingsAndPhotographs/PalladioAndTheVeneto/VenetianArchitecture/VenetianArchitecture.aspxshapeimage_8_link_0
