city form: transit

MARTA is Atlanta’s rapid transit system, but because of the city’s sprawl and its reliance on single-occupancy automobiles it feel less urban and more regional. While the north/south lines connect Downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead (the most dense areas of the city strung out along Peachtree Street), the main purpose of the train system is to link the suburbs with the downtown core. The Citizen’s for Progressive Transit have a broader vision for public transit in the city, as well as a ‘saveMARTA’ campaign, which focuses on raising public awareness of its limited funding structure (it receives no state transit funding, hence the high price of tickets) and increasing ridership .http://www.itsmarta.com/http://www.cfpt.org/http://www.cfpt.org/pages/wctvhttp://www.cfpt.org/pages/wctvshapeimage_3_link_0shapeimage_3_link_1shapeimage_3_link_2shapeimage_3_link_3
