city form: planning

These days housing projects are approached with greater sensitivity to issues of sustainability, public space, and community involvement by city government, planners, and architects. Currently under development, Hunter’s Point South in Queens was this year’s housing studio topic at Columbia’s Graduate School of Architecture. Issues such as variety of housing stock and building typology were investigated along with issues presented by modern technology. Perhaps ‘housing project’ will lose its derogative connotation in the advent of a new vision.http://www.arch.columbia.edu/work/courses/studio/f09-bell-housing-hunters-pointhttp://www.arch.columbia.edu/work/courses/studio/f09-bell-housing-hunters-pointshapeimage_6_link_0shapeimage_6_link_1
Then again Le Corbusier and Team X thought their visions for housing were utopian.http://www.marseille-citeradieuse.org/chap1/immeuble1-2.htmhttp://www.team10online.org/main.htmlshapeimage_7_link_0shapeimage_7_link_1
