city form: planning

A mega-development with meta-buildings, Donau City is a ‘city within a city’, supplying all needs for a self-contained existence: housing, office, childcare, recreation, retail, and a church.

12 years in the making, the development is located on landfill along the Danube River and home to the United Nations Office Vienna and Austria Center.

Like many ‘artificial’ developments separated from the urban life of the city center, the public space at Donau City suffers and has been criticized. Current projects hope to remedy this shortcoming:http://www.wien.gv.at/english/urbandevelopment/donaucity.htmhttp://www.unvienna.org/http://www.unvienna.org/http://www.acv.at/3949_EN-ACV-NEU-2009-HOME.616BB33dd184a2ea3e2b207d33a127795bfe2941shapeimage_5_link_0shapeimage_5_link_1shapeimage_5_link_2shapeimage_5_link_3
