With an estimated population of 13 million, Mumbai is the most populated city in the world, and the 5th most populated metropolitan area. It is one of those cities constantly being listed as one of the ‘fastest/biggest/densest’ etc. – a city of the new world order. It is the product of major feats of civil engineering that merged an archipelago of islands into an amalgamated mass which is already overflowing with migrants seeking city life. With all of the expansion and investment, could this city take on innovation as a mission and sustainability as a mantra to change the model for development? Might we suggest a 2020 World’s Fair in Mumbai that showcases 21st century imagination and invention and creates monuments that speak to our hope for the future?
