city form: architecture

The term brise-soleil was coined by Le Corbusier for an office block to be built in Algiers in 1933, but the architectural strategy really came to fruition at the MES Building in Rio. A group of ambitious Brazilian architects, including Lucio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer, invited Corbu to advise on the design of the building, and the result was clearly influenced by his ‘five points,’ but with a Brazilian flavor all its own. The brise-soleil became part of the modernist language in Rio, with variations spanning from the spare structural interpretation of the Museu d’Arte Moderna to the monolithic Catedral Metropolitana.http://en.mimi.hu/architecture/brise-soleil.htmlhttp://www.fondationlecorbusier.asso.fr/fondationlc_us.htmhttp://modern-brazil-architecture.blogspot.com/2009/12/ministry-of-education-and-health.htmlhttp://modern-brazil-architecture.blogspot.com/2009/12/ministry-of-education-and-health.htmlhttp://www.niemeyer.org.br/http://www.brazilmax.com/news.cfm/tborigem/pl_southcentral/id/30http://www.brazilmax.com/news.cfm/tborigem/pl_southcentral/id/30http://eng.archinform.net/projekte/13973.htmshapeimage_3_link_0shapeimage_3_link_1shapeimage_3_link_2shapeimage_3_link_3shapeimage_3_link_4shapeimage_3_link_5shapeimage_3_link_6shapeimage_3_link_7
