In 1985 the founding president of Benesse Corporation and the mayor of Naoshima had a vision to create a cultural destination promoting the coexistence of art, architecture, and nature. Opened in 1992, Benesse House permanently exhibits site-specific artworks in a complex of buildings designed by Tadao Ando.
