Originally a Romanesque Revival public school building, P.S.1 was founded in 1971 by MOMA as the Institute for Art & Urban Resources, opening with the seminal ‘Rooms’ exhibition, which invited artists to transform the building’s spaces, which included Gordon Matta Clark’s ‘Door, Floor, Doors’. The space was closed for 15 years before reopening to the public in 1997 after a three-year renovation project designed by Frederick Fisher. The building's facilities were expanded to include a large outdoor gallery, where the annual winner of the Young Architect’s Program is installed. http://moma.org/http://ps1.org/newspaper/view/article/27http://www.fisherpartners.net/http://ps1.org/newspaper/view/article/115shapeimage_7_link_0shapeimage_7_link_1shapeimage_7_link_2shapeimage_7_link_3
